    # If you want to use special characters in this document, such as accented letters, you MUST save the file as UTF-8, not ANSI.
    # If you receive an error when Essentials loads, ensure that:
    # - No tabs are present: YAML only allows spaces
    # - Indents are correct: YAML heirarchy is based entirely on indentation
    # - You have "escaped" all apostrophes in your text: If you want to write "don't", for example, write "don''t" instead (note the doubled apostrphe)
    # - List items are prefixed with a hyphen and indented:
    # lists:
    # - look like this
    # not:
    # - like this
    # - Text with symbols is enclosed in single or double quotation marks
    # - CraftBukkit and Permissions have been updated: CraftBukkit and Essentials almost always line up, but sometimes other plugins fall behind CraftBukkit's multiple daily updates
    # - You have saved the document as UTF-8, NOT the default, ANSI

    # When a command conflicts with another plugin, by default, Essentials will try to force the OTHER plugin to take
    # priority. If a command is in this list, Essentials will try to give ITSELF priority. This does not always work:
    # usually whichever plugin was updated most recently wins out. However, the full name of the command will always work.
    # For example, if WorldGuard and Essentials are both enabled, and WorldGuard takes control over /god, /essentials:god
    # will still map to Essentials, whereas it might normally get forced upon WorldGuard. Commands prefixed with an "e",
    # such as /egod, will always grant Essentials priority.
    # Because WorldGuard's /god is broken/unreliable, we should try to take priority over /god. If this doesn't work, use
    # /essentials:god or /egod. Do NOT use WorldGuard's /god, or you will likely be stuck in god mode.

Just take a real quick look at this, because I really need to go to sleep now, but it looks like your permissions file is not loading properly, maybe because you use tab or some other unwanted character inside.

Will take a look at it in about 7 hrs. when I get up again :)

Got your main permission problem figured out allready, you used tabs instead of spaces, inside yml files you should not use tabs (use 4 spaces instead) the yml parser a program that so to speak translates the file to a more readable and organized structure for java can't parse tabs.

You can check your file against any yml errors here..... http://yaml-online-parser.appspot.com/ and your error \t means that the TAB key has been pressed.

I see that you only use essentials so far, I just removed this plugin because it doesn't work very good together along other plugins, but I guess if you are not gonna use other admin like plugins then there is no problem.

You can check their site for more info on how to setup certain things and the tutorials about yaml (yml as we know it) are very interesting..... http://ess.earth2me.com/index.php/YAML_Tutorial and http://ess.earth2me.com/index.php/YAML_Extended

Cant get my head around this i tried using a different layout. It works to a certain point all the permissions i said which certain groups can use will work but when it comes to ['*'] it doesnt understand it. Also if you recommend any optional plugins to Essentials it will be much appreciated. Thanks

    Permissions = http://pastebin.com/vfd4zdrz

ive checked out that Yawl checker and it says theres an error

    this is the error.

    ERROR:

while scanning for the next token

found character '\t' that cannot start any token

    in "<unicode string>", line 37, column 1:

    ^

See if you can figure it out

Like I said in the other post, \t means tab, you know the key above caps lock, don't use that in yml files, same goes with essentials yml files.

Now I gave you a couple of links the yaml tutorial link contains some tips on editing the file, by downloading notepad++ and have that replace tabs with 4 spaces.

I hope that this helps for you, as with your file, I know it contains errors, maybe essentials contains errors too, but I get so many questions about permissions and I do try to help everybody but I am not gonna edit these files into working ones, maybe verygames employees do that, but like you I am only a customer here with the exception they asked me to become a moderator on this forum since I helped alot of people on here allready.

I am not trying to be an unhelpful person, but I simply have my own server too run too, believe me removing tabs will get rid of this particular error, wouldn't say the file will be error free after that but there have been more postings about permissions allready that would give you tips on solving problems with permissions.
